Welcome to Play Stuff
Children’s play is often seen by adults as not terribly important. We often hear the phrase about children’s play “They are just playing” However, children are never simply just playing. They are making sense of their world. When their world goes through change, parents separating, bereavement of someone they love, bullying at school, domestic abuse, anxiety, special needs that need extra support and understanding or trauma, play becomes even more vital.
When an adult needs extra support, they may visit or be referred to a psychiatrist or counsellor or similar therapist. They find that talking over the issues with someone and being listened to can help them reflect and process and hopefully move towards healing.
When a child needs that extra support, they do not have the language to share their emotions. We adults live in a country of words; they live in a country of play. Through play, and creative mediums, they can also feel listened to without the need of words. Play is a medium that comes very naturally to children, to explore their issues. Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses play to help children deal with emotional and mental health issues.
However, for the older child who is able to use language, that alongside creative mediums, can support them to share what is going on for them.
There are no rules. Each child is unique and the work with your child is as individual as she/he is.

About Play Therapy
Play Therapy helps children understand muddled feelings and upsetting events that they haven’t had the chance to sort out properly. Rather than having to explain what is troubling them, as adult therapy usually expects, children use play and other creative means to communicate at their own level and at their own pace.
Children often have no control over the events in their lives. This can lead to negative behaviours where children are simply trying to get some control of their lives. Play Therapy helps them get back a sense of control and empowers them to be who they are.
Play is vital to every child’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, creative and language development.

After sessions, he became much calmer, less violent, and angry outbursts reduced from several a day to less than once a week. Less anxious. A lot happier and carefree. Less friction at home.
